We are Thinking about paying shipping to receive a couple of keets. However- myself and the person with the keets- well, neither of us have shipped birds before. Can anyone tell us how this works, please?

it really depends on how old they are, day old ship better because they still have their yolk to sustain them during transit otherwise you'll need to add 'Grow-Gel' for them and it's nice to use even with day old chicks as well.

for shipping them you need a USPS approved poultry shipping box, straw bedding, Uniheat 72+ hour heat pack (if necessary and taped to bottom center inside of box below bedding) and your grow-gel. ship early in the week and use Express Mail.
