I want to make my chickies area as safe from predators as possible but the fencing is a pain to work with it looks crappy how can I straighten them?

It would help to know more about how your run is constructed (materials etc), or pics.

But, one common reason for wibbly saggy wire fences is if you have not braced the posts (just stuck them in teh ground, each one free-standing). If you do not have either VERY GOOD diagonal bracing of the corner posts, or (better, for a small run) a horizontal board running all the way along the fence near the top of the posts, then you can retighten the fence as often as you want and it will still sag, b/c you are just easing the posts over when you pull on the fencing. (And the weight of the fencing, and the pressure of wind etc on it, will do that even if YOU aren't)

So, connecting the tops of the fenceposts with boards helps a lot.

Also if you use chickenwire there is a real limit to how tight you're going to get it; diagonal stretching during installation helps, but ya know. Even square or rectangular fencing is hard to get really tight if you have a long distance between posts.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

Depends on how the fence is made. If the posts are straight then the fence wire needs to be stretched before stapling it down. But if the posts are crooked you are stuck. you can either rent a fence stretcher or buy one. They work by hooking the hoooks in a reinforcing bar woven into the fence wire Then attaching by a comealong and ratcheted untill stretched. Come alongs are a pully with a hand levered ratchet and cable. You can actually stretch the fence so tight it will pull out the staples anchoring it at the other end. Same goes for chainlink.

Ideally all fence should be stretched for it to be able to do its job. Some fence wire is designed with little jogs in it to give it some spring back for stretching. Keeping it from loosening up over time.

hope this helps?

I have a homemade one I bought at a garage sale for fifty cents because the lady didnt know what it was. I have about eight miles of fence I need to do so I need the undustrial sized one.... lol (I am exaggerating its only about three miles).

And Like Pat Says if you have an upper and lower board you can get it straight by hand stretching alone. Especially welded wire and chainlink.
