We have 2 BEI females, our original flock and 3 call ducks, 2 females & 1 drake - added to the flock about 1 1/2 mo ago. Integration was a bit tough, but the girls all get along fine now. But there is the problem with the unruly drake. He is devoted to the call duck females and they love him, but he hardly ever misses a chance to chase down the BEIs. He has been able to mate one, but I don't think he has ever caught the other. Hard to say, I'm not watching all the time. Now one of the BEI's is broody, has feathered the nest and stays on it most of the time, but the drake will walk over and chase her off the nest - mean thing that he is.
I tried isolating him for a few days, but he croaked constantly and the 2 call females quacked in response - all the time. It drove me nuts so I let him back with them and things were a little better for a while, but now it's back to him being a real jerk as far as the BEIs are concerned. They have learned to steer clear of him as much as possible. I'm thinking of isolating him again, but putting him into our garage where the other ducks can't hear him. Do you think he would return to the flock a nicer boy? If so, how long should I keep him in jail?
If hubby didn't love him so much, he would be duck soup.
