Have a new hampshire that I was given by a neighbor...they found her in a tree :)

How do I tell how old she is? She was missing feathers...we think due to molting. they are now growing back quite nicely. she is full sized...how do I tell hold old she is? Here is a picture maybe this would help.

It's a bit hard to tell age when they're over a year. But if I were to hazard a guess, I'd put her at somewhere around 2 years. Her feather loss looks like it's due to rooster service rather than molting, since the missing ones are on her back.

there really is no telling how old she is. the feather loss is from a rooster over breeding her.

I would say she is still young-ish... Hen's combs and wattles seem to fade with age and hers are bright red. My old hens have very little combs compared to when they were young. She was definitely brutalized by a rooster though.
