I need to move 18 poults to their new home down the road. They are about 5 weeks old. It's only about 8 miles and a short trip up a gravel road. Is it safest to put them in a few cardboard boxes? I have one dog crate but it may be a little large, I'm worried about them jumping around and getting injured.

Thanks so much!

You can use the boxes or the crate, I've used both in the past. If you use the crate, place a blanket or something over them to keep them in the dark. They will be less jumpy and will settle down when their surroundings are darkened. Your doing a short move so they won't be overly stressed. Be sure to put shavings , straw, hay etc on the bottom to keep them from sliding around . A good footing will also make them more comfortable.

Thanks for the help! I used the dog crate with a light blanket and they were very calm. Happy and safe in their new home!
