oh boy......... Medusa the crazy 3 mnth old button quail got out of the pen last night -- I was sooooooooooooo tired.. she ran under a big heavy couch in my room but I was exhausted from so many things going on in life.. So I left her out all night b/c it takes an hour or more to catch the sly little thing and put a water dish out for her.
When I moved this a.m. she flew straight up and whacked her head on the ceiling, and then when I tried to nab her she took off again and slammed herself against a wall and fell to the floor stunned with her head bleeding. At first I thought she broke her neck but she was still alive. I picked her up, wrapped her in a towel and force fed her some of B vitamin slop I mix up for sick little beepers with a syringe. She took it but not happily. Within 20 mins she was already wiggling to get free and trying to get away again! == Managed to get her into the pen, but now wondering what to do about the bloody gash on her head? -- She's acting normally for now. What if she has a concussion though? Should I put anything on the wound?

In COMPARRISON, the day before yesterday I was laid back on the bed with my laptop with my 7 week tame button, Sweetpea, flouncing about in my hair making birdy noises when suddenly he got really quiet ... I looked down and there he was laying on his back with his little orange stick-legs in the air sleeping! So adorably cute but I didn't get a picture unfortunately. (thought u may like that story specifically @WoDia Lol!)

Oh my goodness Medusa! Ornery girl. Recently, one of my silver males did a head boink too and split the skin open on his crown. It bled a little. I wrapped him in a wash cloth, took warm water on a cloth and cleaned the wound, let it dry off a little, then applied triple antibiotic. It’s healing very nicely. Thought I’d also mention that this little stink bug did that before, and I treated it the same way. I hated to separate him from his brother, but I had to keep him in the hospital box until he healed enough. As long as Medusa is acting fine…. eating drinking, calm…. no worries. Clean the wound and put antibiotic on it 2-3 times a day. Doing this has worked for me every time. Don’t be sad…. Medusa’s a wild woman…. she will heal well. Additionally, the ā¤ļø is for little Sweetpea from his biggest fan!

Medusa is crazy like a fox! -- She's doing all the same stuff as usual including running like the wind when I go near the pen... and Sweetpea STILL looks confused ... haaa!

Thanks for the info on treating the wound!

You’re very welcome! Sounds like a little head wounds not slowing her down at all!!

If you cleaned any debris from it, I would just leave it alone to heal. I recently lost a hen, she flew out when I was filling the water and slammed the wall across the room full speed, about 12 feet up in the air, she hit hard and fell like a rock to the floor, dead. I added front opening doors to the cage to prevent this in the future. They are less likely to try and succeed escaping a front door vs a top door.

awww so sad (especially if one is attached to their wee flock).. sorry about that one you lost :(

I will never buy another grown button from someone else --- I'm going to hand tame all my wee ones so they're just like my baby boy -- He never tries to escape because he's usually with me 50% of the day anyhow! ... He's not the brightest lightbulb in the package, but I love him dearly! ... LOL = Today he was quite relaxed.

I can't help but wonder about those long white underlying feathers *scratches head

Looks like a pied wing phenotype. And yes I like to handle my chicks a lot so they are less wild when they go to their new homes.
thanks so much - he also has a blue breast. I've never heard of pied wing phenotype .. obviously I'm very new to all this. .. Love my wee boy!

His girlfriend's head healed well all by itself -- she is soooo wild
