I am pretty sure I have an egg bound hen. :( How does one help the chicken pass the egg?

How long do I have to treat her? Before it's too late.

I have a hen that just started laying last October. Initially, she laid just like everyone else, then she stopped. To make a long story short, I tried soaking her in epsome salt warm baths and massaging the egg toward the vent. I fed her high calcium foods, such as yogurt and crushed egg shells, along with her normal feed, as I have read that it can be caused by a calcium deficiency. I also brought her into the house (it was cold outside), but took her outside during the warmest part of the day so she could dust bath and soak in some sun. I could feel the egg, it just would not come out. This went on for over a week and the egg never came out (that I could find), but it did disappear. Weird! I then read that eggs can get absorbed by the hens system, if it stays in there too long. I hope this helps and i do hope your hen starts feeling better soon!

Either it was already broken or I broke it, but it broke. She has yolk/egg white coming out of her vent. :( Poor thing! She doing better, I think. This afternoon I sat with her wrapped in a towel in my arms for a couple hours. If I got up to go somewhere, she'd look at me and chirp pitifully. :( She is drinking well, eating a little bit, and pooping a little bit.
