How well do debeaked chickens do.

I am probablly getting a few 5 month old leghorn/ RIR that are debeaked. I really like to let my birds free range during the day, will they be alright. Also will they really get picked on by the other birds with beaks. Can I use regular feeders. These birds are very well cared for, where they are at, but they only have debeaked chicks. They all came in one order, and they don't need all the birds.

Any of you that have had debeaked chickens how did they do. I need answers fast. Please help.

Just make sure their feed dishes are deep enough for them to scoop. Depending on the extent of the beak removal, they might need special feeder dishes and water dishes. I presume these are "rescues" of sorts. Bless you for taking them in.

Hi, I have two debeaked chickens, they are very normal, only thing different is that it takes them a little longer to peck up stuff. They manage fine. I spoil them regularly by chopping there veggies and fruit into nice small chunks and they dive into it fine! They are very loving. BTW debeaking doesn't change them in any way except getting at certain foods. Otherwise, they don't know the difference. It happens in certain hatcheries where they have to "trim" the beaks for "pecking order situations" ie - ordering pullets that are from a hatchery.

I would'nt do that again, only because I don't think it's right. But the birds can't help the situation, it's not their fault. They are great birds! I love mine. If you do think of getting them, enjoy them, it doesn't change any thing except that their beak is different. ( Think kids and others that have disabilities) Somebody is adopting all those debeaked chickens, well, I'm one.

The guy I was planing on buying them from, ordered 16 chicks back in spring, now he doen't need all 16 so he wants to sell a few. I am not for the whole debeaking chicks, and do not want to encurage it. I would like to give them a home, but want to know if they will be happy here. I only have silkies at the moment, but want to get more laying hens, with beaks:|. The layers will be seperat from the silkies.
