How well do roosters do at auctions??

I hope i have posted this in the right thread! I have about 9 Roosters that i will be taking to auction next weekend. This will be my first time attending/entering a poultry auction. All my roos are mixed breed except for 1 , a buff O. . I was just wondering if roos sell as well as hens? Better? Thanks!

Unless you pair them up with hens you can expect around $0.50-4.00. Price increased the heavier breed they are and who was buying (ie: Hispanics, Vietnamese, etc. Some restaurants and worker's groups would come and buy them) As pairs they'll go for more, around $10/pair.

Depends what sort of auction and what the rooster is (breed and quality). Most roosters hardly sell past $5, but at places like Eggbid, you can sell a top quality Araucana rooster for the highest bid at over $200.

I'm in Northern CA and take extra roos, mostly mixed breed, to auction every couple of months. I usually get about $10 each, sometimes as much as $20. I'm sure it depends upon your location, size of the roo, etc.

There are lots of variables. Here it depends on the time of year, the quality and size of the birds, and the demand for them. At our local auction here in south Ga. roosters will average anywhere from $7 - $10 each, some can go upwards of $15. There is ususally at least one man who comes with a big cattle trailer half full of plastic transport coops, and hes buts hundreds of chickens and the other half of his trailer he fills with goats and he takes them all to lower Florida ( Miami) and sells them there. The Haitians and people from the surrounding islands buy them and most are used for sacrifice.
