I am loving the silkie look, they are very pretty. I was thinking of adding a few to our first order of chicks this spring. How well do they tolerate cold? I live in Indiana and the winters can get down around -15.

My girls and boys did fairly well down to about 8°F inside the coop. I didn't have enough lights for everyone, and they seemed to be ok. What will the temps be inside your coop when its -15F outside?

I live in Michigan, and my silkies have handled this winter very well. As long as you've got plenty of buddies for them to cuddle with, have no drafts in your coop, and keep plenty of dry bedding for them to sleep in...they'll be just fine.

I don't really know what the temps would be inside the coop if it were that cold outside. We are going to build the coop in early spring and insulate it. I guess I will have to get out there and check the average temps inside on cold days and see if we need heat lamps in there.
