I have a small flock consisting of 1 rooster, 11 hens and 3 female ducks. They all get along beautifully. I’m considering adding 1 or 2 female geese, or maybe female turkeys so I can get different kinds of eggs and just for variety. My main totally enclosed coop is about 10x10 with deep litter and an automatic photosensitive door opener. It opens to a large fenced pen (about 80 sqft). The pen includes another coop (whose door is always open) to a 10x15 coop, 2 sides of which are enclosed with chicken wire. I live in Montana. My rooster is a kind, good protector. He is about 1 1/2 years old, and the other hens and ducks were added since then (youngest hens are about 5 months old). With minimal separation all newcomers integrated easily to the flock. Given geese seem to be a more dominant aggressive species, will 2 female geese upset my rooster’s leadership role? I’d really like to add variety, but not if it will disrupt my happy flock. Thoughts? Words of wisdom and experience are appreciated. This is my first flock. Thanks!
