How young can you give meal worms?

I hand feed mealworms to day old quail (when I have them) I hold them though I do not let the day olds take the mealworms whole from me, this is because then they get confused and think eachothers toes are mealworms and it's a "lets eat eachothers toes free for all and it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt severely.....so i hold the meal worm and let them tear peices away ....a horrifying death for a mealworm but a cute and fun way to hand feed and give thema great source or protien

I don't feed them the meal worms until about 4 weeks. I don't think I would have the patients to hand feed them LOL
I do give them pin head crickets starting at about one day old

Thanks folks,
Hand feeding is not a problem. DW likes to get them used to people and hand feeds the breeder parents. They are so tame they run around on your hand or under it pecking at your fingernails or ring...
They are quite comical..

Last batch, A&Ms and Jujbos, as I was taking the chicks out of the incubator, I noticed a bit of spilled feed, with a single mealworm on it...
Just out of curiosity, I dropped it in with the hour-old quail that had been in the brooder for every bit of 1 minute.
They fought over the mealworm like they were a year-old Barred Rock!
A bit surprising that they are hatched ready to survive, given some protection.
The Creation never ceases to amaze me.

I know what you mean rbar..
We sprinkle ground up feed and put a jar lid with marbles in it and water in the hatching bator and they eat and drink minutes out of the egg....
Too bad they are so tiny, they would be good Poult trainers.. lol
