I fell in love with chickens back in the 1950s when I was preschool age, helping my granny gather eggs and raise the "biddies" she bought in flats every spring from Bedford Hatchery. I'm almost 70 now!
I have had chickens in the past and have been longing to have some chickens again to relax with their contented clucking, have fresh eggs, and raise "biddies". In the past I rescued roosters and hens after their owner was sent to prison. My son heard them in an outbuilding and investigated because the home was vacant. My aunt knew the family, made contact, and I became the owner of six pairs of roosters and hens. The breed was unknown but the roosters were aggressive and beautiful. Wish I had pictures to share. One hen sat on a pyramid of eggs (the tiniest hen I had became the broody hen). The chicks had the chipmunk markings. I also adopted three hens: Cher (black feathers), Michelle (yellow feathers), and Susan (red feathers) I named for " The Witches of Eastwick" actresses. These three ladies had been three little girls Easter chicks. The family was moving into an apartment and the hens needed a home.
I am so looking forward to reading your chicken stories!
