Just moved to a rural area near Springtown and Jacksboro Texas. 7 Acres of green land with two homes and a load of potential. Coming from desert rural Arizona, this is a HUGE change! 23 year old city boy, born and raised in Phoenix, AZ. Moved semi-rural for a year and then just up and moved to Texas with my 20 year old wife (going on 2 years) so that she can finish her education as a Certified Practicing Midwife.
We hope to start raising heritage breed poultry including chickens, ducks and geese. Have experience with a small chicken coop and a few chickens but I just upped it to 9 total egg layers in the grow-out just a week or so after we moved here. Just Barred Rocks but its a breed I'm familiar with. As soon as our finances recover and I can get our bearings I will find the breeds I want long term. I hope to provide for this area best I can in the future.
After I master these we hope to move on to goats and maybe a couple cows. We'll see where it goes! I hope to use this forum to express our adventures, collect information, and get advice when needed.
