(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We've had our hens & roosters for almost a week.
Bought them from a local gal who's was flyin' the coop on her Harley.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Theres 6 hens and 2 roosters.....I've taken the gals word we bought the birds from as to how old they all are.
So far we've gotten a dozen eggs in 6 days....at least a couple of them birds are givin' us cackle berries

(3) What breeds do you have?

We were told Bantams, but I'm not sure what they all are.
I'm looking on the site to find similar photos to help me.
Maybe someone here can identify them for us....IF I figure out how to post photos!

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Together we enjoy gardening, fishing, hiking, and ATV riding.
Separately the Monster Man rides dirts bikes, hunts, pushes snow on the quad or dirt on the tractor, and makes plans for more building projects around the homestead, while I fiddle with computer, graphics, sewing, reading and music.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We retired from Las Vegas in 2006 and have busied ourselves with workin' on our homestead in rural Nevada.
We have 3 dogs and 2 horses. We were forced to re-home 6 horses due to the rising costs of hay, it was a lot more difficult to do than I thought it would be.

When the weather permits we'll begin training the horses, which will be a new experience for us as well as raisin' chickens!

I'm lookin' forward to readin' what ya'll post and learnin' from ya.
Thanks in advance

We got started in chickens last year, and currently we have 30. That number will grow to about 50 this spring. We have Australorps, RIR, BR, BO, WO, SLW, standard blue cochins, Japanese bantams both white black tailed & mottled, and Black White crested polish. We have more Australorps ordered and we're getting some EE, Light & Buff Brahmas,. We're getting some Show quality silkies in the spring, and I'm getting some Black Orps later in the spring too.
We have 2 kids, one is in 4-H, and the other is mad because he's not old enough until this fall. Both kids are getting English Angona rabbits. I'm sure they'll be showing them in the fair.
Our hobbies include our kids, our animals, and traveling.
I first found BYC last May, when I was trying to learn everything I could before we got our chickens. I think BYC is the best thing since sliced bread!

You'll really love it here! Everyone is so nice and helpful!
