Hi, This forum seems awesome!
I am new to chickens, but have been raising quails for a whopping 2 weeks
I am building my airy coup in my yard. It should be about 12x20 run, Netting or hardware cloth roof, and a 4x4 coup with 3 nesting boxes. It will be well ventilated, given the heat problem here, and the critters should have plenty of shade under the coup and in the run.
I'm planning on getting about 8 birds. I'm hoping for 6 silkies and 2 "good layers" but I'm not sure I can wait till spring to start my chicks! Anyone know where to get full sized silkies this time of year? Most of the hatcheries seem to be sold out till spring. I have a 2x4' stock tank to use as a brooder until the chicks are ready for the great outdoors.
Can't wait to get started!
