I'm an SC transplant to the Pacific NW and we're picking our chicks up this week. Got a small brooding area ready, and working on building the coop so it will be ready in May.

Any recommendations before I get in too deep?

Build your coop as big as you possibly can...chickens have a way of multiplying (even if you don't have a rooster)-you will find that you will want to add on just a couple more later (then a couple more, and a couple more)​
