San Antonio, Texas area, hello :)

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

No. We made a homemade coop several years ago and learned how to keep chickens with some brave layers that survived a somewhat leaky coop and chickens hawks and gave us wonderful eggs for quite some time. We recently moved to a home w a little over two acres and brought them with us!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

11

(3) What breeds do you have?

1 Ameraucana
2 Leghorns
3 Australorps
4 Wyandottes
1 Rhode Island Red

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Of course we love the eggs, but I just really like to watch them grow over time, their personalities, and watching them in the backyard. I also like the routine of caring for them, cleaning the coop, making sure they have water, giving them treats, and definitely that they help take care of bugs and small critters. I also love the trail cameras and keeping track of critters who come and go at night. We've never been able to keep a rooster until now and I really enjoy our roo, his crowing, and his watching over the ladies.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Lawyer by trade. Love being outside, reading, and being w my family. My 15 year old is a very good hooper and watching her basketball games is truly a highlight.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Also have two good doggos, one who is really big but blind, who tries to keep the flock off his patio. He spends most of his time looking in the back door, though, trying to get in that the ladies just ignore him! The other is a small mutt who really runs the show.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Found you all when I did a search for ways to keep chickens off the patio! Hilarious that there's really no good way other than fencing or a good water hose :) A little Dawn and water seems to the do the trick helping us keep it clean. Thanks!
