Hey yall! I'm a new member from a little south of Houston, Tx. We were at the feed store last weekend and they had baby chicks. Well I just couldn't resist the look on my 10 yr old daughters face and ended up coming home with 4 of them. All are female sexlink breed is what I was told. Two are yellow and 2 are black. I know nothing about raising chickens so searching online today is what led me to this forum. I will be reading as much as I can hoping to learn a bunch and will probably have some dumb questions as well. :D

The chicks are only a week old. Right now I've got them in my small work shop in a 40 gallon black feed tub with cedar shavings, a heat lamp, some food and water. They seem happy so far. I'll post questions in the forum as we go along. This seems like a cool place full of great info.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined :)
Hope you can make some friends and meet new people! I'd love to see some of your chicks if you are able to post pictures. :love
Here ya go. Actually 3 are sexlinks and one is some other breed. Not sure exactly. Its multicolored.

Will do. What is optimal temp for them?
I wouldn't have them any warmer than 85° right now and I would remove the heat completely in about a week if they were my chicks.
I'm actually hatching out quail chicks this week and they're going to have added heat for only three days then none when they get moved outside. Added heat is overrated for our area.

Good to know. Thank you.
