Hi, I am a born and raised "farm girl" (with a temporary hiatus in town for TOO LONG). Back in the country and starting my Adventures in Chickie Land... My husband, also a country boy, was raised around chickens, but my family never had any, so this is all new to me. I just got my baby girls (I hope...), 9 Rhode Island Reds (aka the Gertrudes) and 9 Barred Rock (aka the Ethels) yesterday, and I will have Lots and Lots of questions, so I hope nobody minds :)

I like how you named all your birds either Gertrude or Ethel, lol. Makes things easier I'm sure.

Nice to have you join us!

Congratulations on your new chicks! You've picked out some excellent breeds. Both Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rocks have well deserved reputations for good egg production and temperaments. I've greatly enjoyed keeping my Rhode Island Red for the past four years.

We'll be happy to answer all of your questions! Good luck with your new flock.
