Hallo there,

I'm jumping into the backyard chicken scene and getting six chicks (an Ameraucana, Barnevelder, Welsummer, Buff Brahma, Barred Rock, and an Australorp) in two weeks time.

I might be a lurker more then a poster, as I'm just learning from all the shared knowledge here.

Right now my biggest concern is the planning department in Portland, as I may need a building permit to build a coop, but for the last two weeks I haven't been able to get through for any confirmation one way or another. And if I don't find out soon, I'm going to have chicks growing up with no place to put them!

Good luck with your flock. The winters can be hard on them, so watch out for frostbite on their combs. There are plenty of threads on here that can help you during a nice Maine winter.
