Hey everyone! I actually joined a few months ago, but never got around to introducing myself. So now's the time!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Well, sort of. I've had two flocks, both of four, and combined them to make one flock of eight. I first got chickens when I was around 12, I think. My mom went to IFA to get tomato plants and came out with chicks! Of course, I've learned that chickens are some of the hardest birds to take care of!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Four. Two from my original flock, two from the new flock. The other four have passed away. My oldest is Ash, a Black Sex Link with a firey red chest and pretty orange eyes. Second oldest is Fire, my Rhode Island Red who has an "angry noise" that resembles a goose honking. The two youngest are Sirius, the Black Sex Link with no volume control and Kokolo, the Ameraucana with very fluffy cheeks. <3
The four that have passed on are Cookiechen, my little sister's Golden Sex Link--she was the head of the flock. Sunny, another Golden Sex Link, Fuji, the youngest of the "old bunch" and with the highest pitched chicken voice I've ever heard, and sweet, sweet Ginger, who passed away this year after I tried to drain her ascites. She also had the deepest chicken voice I've ever heard.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Rhode Island Red, Ameraucana (I think that's how you spell it) and two Black Sex Links.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Going to the coop every day and seeing the ladies run to the door when they hear my voice! I also love the "Egg Song" that they "sing" whenever one of them is in the nesting box.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to write novels, sew, read, draw, and animate.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have two cats, two bunnies, two parakeets and a backyard full of finches to keep me company as well.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I've known about BYC for a long time, and I would read the threads if I had a problem with my chickens. You guys have helped my ladies so much! I joined because my hen Ginger was swelling up and I didn't know what was wrong with her, and I couldn't find anything that was close to her condition. I joined so that I could know what to do to save my lady.
