Thanks for the add.

Did someone say chickens? Yes, I have been around chickens. As a teenager, my job was to feed and gather the eggs. My dad and two other men had 20,000 caged laying hens, and boy do they eat a lot...and poop too! Fortunately, I didn't have to take care of all of them.

Fast forward 50 years, and I am chickenless. :-( However, my daughter does have chickens...10-15 (I forgot). The only problem is she lives in Tulsa, OK, and I am in the Houston, Tx area.

I have been telling her I want to use some home automation for her coop. She said that would be great because she wants to be able to open or close the door. I can do that. My goal is to use a Raspberry Pi to automate her coop. That may or may not happen. Mainly because they have poor wifi and it won't reach the coop. And they don't have electricity (other than an extension cord for a lamp during the winter).

Disclaimer: I am not a programmer by any means, but I have successfully programmed the Raspberry Pi to open/close my garage door and lock/unlock it with a physical locking mechanism (linear actuator). I do that from my phone with an app called Blynk.

So, I have alot of reading to do to see what you folks have. I won't ever have a coop of my own because the HOA would go nuts if I put one in. :-(

Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
Mike
