Hi.

I have been lurking in BackyardChickens for more than 10 years, contemplating assembling my own flock. I'm also a member of BYC on Facebook. I've moved from San Antonio to the Hill Country and now have plenty of room to get it done. I received the gift of a guard shack from realignment/closure activities at local air bases, from a very dear, late friend. My health has been poorly and I want egg-layers to provide me a gainful activity.

Even putting the yard together on-the-cheap costs significant money and labor. I got some paint and am in the process of "procuring" signs to make the guard shack look stick. I'll post photos of the build. It is underway at this time. My current conundrum is finding a reasonably-priced automatic door. Any advice on that will be appreciated. Seems like what's out there is ridiculously expensive.

Professionally, I've been a defense instructor-trainer, and produced documentary outdoor television and web. I recently embarked on another round of documentaries and might post links later.

Take it easy,

DD

hi DDB and :welcome I hope all will work out for you on this why of life having chickens is very rewarding I think not just in having eggs but in hatching them build a place for them and just setting back and watching them peck at the ground and just doing there thing,

Hi, it's nice to have you here! Your guard shack coop build sounds interesting, hope to see some photos. The auto doors are expensive, but if you do a search here on BYC, you may find where other members have been able to build their own.

Best of luck to you, thanks for joining us!
