My name is Ari and I live in Texas! Ive been a member for a little over a year, but realized I've never introduced myself!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My family had a few pet chickens when I was a kid, but I got my own in the Spring of 2019! Best decision ever!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
5, 3 on the way from Cackle!

(3) What breeds do you have?
EE, Leghorn, ISA Brown, Buff Orpington & Black Sex Link. The 3 chicks being shipped today are Splash Ameraucanas!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They have the funniest little personalities, and are constant entertainment.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, soap making, painting/sculpture.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am newly married. Between the two of us, we have our chickens, 3 dogs and 2 conures. I'm a preschool teacher and go to school for Art Education (aiming to teach HS ceramics!)

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I stumbled across BYC when I first got chicks last year and they had pasty butt. The forums are so helpful and I'm so grateful for this resource. Everyone is welcoming and there is a wealth of knowledge here! 🧡

Ameraucanas, a silkie, and I don’t know what else.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Chickens are absolutely hilarious and never cease to make me smile with their Family Matters worthy quirks and daily antics.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Writing, acting, reading, and more.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am a 19 year old college sophomore in Oklahoma. I still live with my parents and we have 2 bantams, one half-bantam half-chicken, seven turkeys, two pigs, countless chickens, 17 dogs, plus a neighbor’s dog who thinks he lives here, and two cats! I want to become an actress and author. I hope to someday live in Seattle, Washington.

I stumbled across BYC just googling things about chickens when I got curious. I learned a lot, and it seemed like a good community, so a month or two ago I bit the bullet and joined!
Here’s some more pictures I took of our chickens today! Silkie=Afro, Gray=Charcoal (Coal), Gold=Ruth, and Bantam=Sausage. Afro is the only rooster of this mini flock.
