I’m not really new to raising chickens. My grandparents had them, and I do remember stuff they taught me. However, I have never raised them myself. I inherited 2 roosters & 6 hens from a former tenant. I’m going to be moving the coop and all to my property over the next few weeks. I have a run already in progress of building. I have someone willing to take one of the roosters because I was told I shouldn’t have 2 because they will fight. I have a hen setting on a nest, I don’t know if I can move her until the chicks hatch. Kind of starting from scratch, but in the middle of the river! Any advice is appreciated!

hi! welcome to BYC! wow you do have a lot going on. I think that if you have to move the broody hen , it will be okay, but if you can wait, it might be better.. but then again, Im no broody hen expert, Im more of a duck duck goose person. hopefully someone who has experienced your situation will chime in. maybe post that question in another forum, such as

Are they roosters (over 1 yr old) or cockerels?
If they are roosters and they haven't already been fighting, or over breeding the hens, there isn't any problem keeping both.

Well hello! Welcome - I say you are lucky to have 'inherited' your chooks someone wrote here that if the Roos are mature and not fighting or overbreeding the gals they should be ok together.

As for the broody hen on a nest:
1) how many eggs?
2) do you have any idea when she started sitting on them?

I have moved broodies to another nest here but never to a 'new' location. It might be best to wait until she has hatched them if you can wait. But I am hardly the most experienced person....
