I just joined and we recently bought four chicks. We had eight a couple of years ago and got rid of them. It is a challenge to have them and two labs that are trained retrievers, but we are making it work. We really missed the fresh eggs and the unique personality each chicken has.

Excited to have a resource like BYC!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your new chicks :celebrate Great to hear you have got back into chickens, I too think I would miss them too much if I had to give mine up. I hope you are able to manage things with your retrievers and the chicks. What breed/s do you have now?

Be sure to ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Thanks. We have a buff Brahma a rhode island red a black australorp and an easter egger. Just ordered another black australorp and an Easter egger ... just waiting to hear when I van pick them up.

Always a challenge with the dogs but the chicks are secure in their pen. :)

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. I've had all three of those breeds and they are all great breeds (technically EEs are hybrids and not an actual breed). Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years, and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Thanks Michael. Before we had Rhode island reds, buff Brahmas, barred rock and leg horns. I understand that the EEAre not a breed of their own but a 'heinze 57' mix as mt Mom used to call mutt dogs.. lol.
Can't wait for them to start laying eggs!

Ok stupid question but I'm using a smartphone anf want to change the profile pic ... do I have to do that from a pc?

I'm not sure how to change/add avatar on mobile. But if you scroll down to the bottom of this page you will see mobile - desktop in 2 grey boxes. Click desktop and it will take you to a different version of BYC. Once there at the top right hand side of the screen "My profile" click that and change avatar should be there.

Hope this helps I will have quick look for some screen shots for you.

I've just borrowed these form another thread ~

You're welcome. Easter Eggers are hybrids produced by crossing blue egg layers with brown egg layers to produce offspring that will lay eggs in colors other than just blue (olive, green, beige, and sometimes even pale pink). My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves their colored eggs.
