Today went and checked on my turkeys and chickens and noticed blood on my Broad Breasted white turkey female and there is a huge gash under her wing thigh area. And I was trying to find a blood trail and nothing I think my Tom turkey I have with her sliced her with his spurs trying to mate with her. This is my first huge gash I’ve ever dealt with on any type of poultry. I have her in her own stall away from him and the chickens and she’s resting. What do I need to do to help this heal quick and keep away from fly strike and getting infected. Also it’s not super deep it’s like the outter skin got sliced open. Please help me this Turkey is my kids best friend and they love her so much and so do we. Pictures attached!!!

That does look like a mating wound. I've had them heal up fine with just an application of a wound dressing as needed. It can take a few weeks. The turkey hen should clean the wound on a regular basis. I'd also separate her from the Tom so he doesn't re-injure her. You will need to trim your toms nails and spurs so it doesn't happen again. Is this your only hen?

What dressing should I use? Sorry if that’s a dumb question but again this is my first big wound on poultry. I noticed her beak had some blood on it so I’m sure she has been cleaning it. She is separated from him and the chickens as well. This is my only hen but I am thinking about getting another one since he can’t mate with her because she’s just a big girl to try that on.

I always used bluekote, but you could try something like Vetericyn. If she starts acting off you may need to find a vet for some antibiotics, but I've never had a problem with my turkey hens healing.

More hens may help, but he probably would still slash the hens up. I've learned to tend to nails and spurs every spring to help prevent these injuries.
