HI I am on day 18 - began lockdown this AM. Humidity has been 25-45 at extreme ends with the center tray and 2 sponges in hovabotor still air all 18 daysToday, . I filled both trays and kept 3 sponges. Now I have moisture on clear windows but hydrometer (Zilla temp and humidity reader for reptiles) is reading b/w 30 and 40. I can add more sponges but I am afraid of too much humidity. Can a hydrometer stop working? Temp has stayed fairly consistant. I did open bator once quickly but am trying not to. HELP!!!!

Have you plugged up and taped up all of your vents? You should be at least at 60% Ideally 65-70%. I scotch taped all of my holes and added water until the troughs overflowed. Hope this helps:)

If you're getting fogging on the window(s), then your humidity is high enough. If it's dripping wet, it's too high. I would try another hygrometer...

No, no, no .... do not plug up all your vents and holes! At this time, they need oxygen more than humidity. Leave the holes and vents OPEN, especially during lockdown. 60 - 65% humidity is fine. Put a wet washcloth in with them, or something like that. Personally, I prefer no higher than 65%.

Don't plug up the holes those babies need air don't worry about your humidity if your fogging up the windows did you calibrate it first? one of mine was off 10% another one was over 5% I do have one that's perfect though and it takes time for the meter to read when you add water....I have a hard time getting my humidity over 60% and I've had good hatches so see how your humidity reads after a couple of hours. Good luck and keep notes so you can figure out what works for you.

How do you calibrate a hydromter? This is not digital just a compass looking thing! I am going to just hope for the best, since th windows have fogging. Is it a problem to hav fog? Its not dripping.

!/4 cup salt not iodized 1/4 water in a cup, small bowl put it in a baggie put the meter in it not container just the baggie then bag it again in a bigger baggie wait 24 hours and see what it reads. Don't put it where it will be in the sun either. Your meter should read 75% if not you now know how much it is off. My round meter like yours reads 5 degrees over.

If you have fog the humidity must be higher than you think

So, if I have fog, should I remove a sponge? I think Its too late too calibrate this thing. Hatch due Friday!

leave it alone it's going to drive you crazy you really don't need to stress over it go do something else for a bit it's okay. What did the air sacks look like when you candled them? Mine always look too big and they hatch anyways. You can't change what's going on and it's probably okay anyways. Good luck and happy hatching
