Okay so I just went into lockdown last night and I can only get my humidity up to 55-58%. I have filled both trays with water and even tried a sponge (which it seemed even lower when doing this). What else can I do?
thanks

In the instructions with the Brinsea they talk about an evaporation card. It's a card that is folded so part is sitting in the water trough and the rest is flat on the shelf. That way it wicks water up and increases surface area. I do the same thing with a wash cloth. So part is in the trough, and then it covers the entire shelf on one side, underneath the egg tray. My humidity is usually right around 65% this way. You could get it higher by doing it on both sides.

Those humidity cards don't work very well, IMO. I use (believe this or not) a maxi pad stuck to the side of the black plastic pan. squirt water on it first, of course. I think, because the air can run over the top of the pad easier, it really helps with the humidity.

What is the evaporation card made out of?

I also have a Brinsea and it's been a challenge keeping the humidity high enough. I'm wondering if using some of the Sham-wow material might work. It absorbs a lot of water and would sit on the bottom of the bator well...?

Like lemurchaser suggested I placed a wash cloth in the bator. It is holding humidity at 70%. Thanks!!!

I used a sponge to increase humidity for lockdown. I stood it on end leaning against the side over the troughs. But I had to re-wet it with hot water every day to maintain 66 RH. I would love to know your results with the wash cloth - where are you placing it? Thanks, Joanne

Just where lemurchaser said ... half in the water trough and the other half on the shelf next to it. Seems to be working great.

I have a brinsea and I use a wash cloth that way I am able to get my humdity up to about 60%-70% I had a very succesful hatch last time using a wet washcloth.
