humidity

i have read all different things saying different humidity levels, what should it actually be for chicken eggs?

everybody has a different answer. I live in east texas and the RH is always quite high. I dry incubate until day 18 and then add water trays in my bator.

I use a range between 40 and 50% levels for the first 18 days and then bump the humidity to 60 to 70% for the last 3 days.

I keep my humidity levels between 45% and 50% for the first 18 days then bump it so 60% to 70% (I try to keep it around 65%) for the last 4 days. I've had the best hatches when I keep my humidity levels within these ranges.

I also live in texas...was my first time hatching....I didnt do so good 17 eggs didnt hatch...13 did...2 sickly, died. but I found and read a very long forum on this and it made so much sense!!!!! on Humidity!!!! I think you should read it. I took notes on it...and I understand alot of things alot better.

his rates are 90%-100& hatch!!!! Its worth it....Its an older postings it was given to me by another BYCer....

Ok, last night someone gave me this story about humidity and all, said if you can find this old thread its worth its weight in gold...so I sat for 3hrs and I found it....of course I didnt save it, and I couldnt copy it...so I saw this and I posted it, I then sat down to find it, thinking I knew how I found it the first time....WRONG.....

BUT I DID TAKE NOTES FROM THE WHOLE LONG LONG THREAD....I have the notes CANT FIND THE THREAD....

I have a question regarding humidity as well. What in nature causes the humidity to raise on day 18, that we "replicate" in our incubators?

I'm thinking we up the temps the last three days because they need to stay moist and be able to turn on their own. I'm assuming the mother hen would help them out if they have trouble? There could be another reason but I don't know it lol That is what I thought of when raising the humidity last three days. I know mine tend to dry out if I don't do this and they pip and that is it. When the humidity is higher they do fine.

If there is some other reason we do this I would be interested in knowing as well

I FOUND IT!!!! its VERY VERY LONG....do you want me to post it here???? It was told by another BYCer for me to look this thread up...it took me forever to read it....has Foam bator and dry/wet bating, etc...its worth it like she said...GOLD....
