I'm on day 20 and I have had about 5 chicks hatch so far. The humidity was reading 83 (it reads about 6 degrees low)this morning when I woke.. so I immediately opened vents and cracked the lid a few seconds.

Now it is down to 73. However the temp dropped from 100 to 97.. so I freaked and put the vents back in. Humidity seems to be climbing again and is 75 now. What do I do??? It's either lower humidity or lower temp.

HELP!!!! I have several more to hatch.

Oh and I have a LG with a fan kit installed it's my first hatch.

How exciting! First, breathe deep and relax! It will all work out

70%-80% the last few days of hatching is perfectly fine. See raising chicks from eggs in this forum. Around 50% is good for days 1-18. You may want to just crack the vents a little to see if it will stabilize since you were 89% (83% = 6% for variance in reading according to your post) I would not crack the top. I would not worry about your short term drop in temp to 97 at this late stage of the game. A quick drop in air temp will not affect the egg temp all that much, they hold their heat. Opening your vents fully too quickly may drop the temp quickly. Open half and let is stabilize temp and check RH. If you need to open them full once temp recovers then go ahead. Keep us posted!

ok I guess I'll play the in and out game with the vent plugs, LOL:)

I have one chick that is hatching out under the fan right in the middle of the bator, they are in cartons. Well he had broken the whole top off the egg and has just been sitting there struggling in his egg for an hour. He seems healthy and alert, just not getting his legs out and away from the egg. Should I be worried if he doesn't ever get off that bottom half of his shell and walk around? I keep thinking he is stuck because he has less headroom by the fan.

Oh and there is another chick that has a weird pink ball on his hiny.. it definately seems to be flesh. I wonder if its a deformity!!!

This is stressful.. so far I have a quitter that zipped all the way around and I think is dead now. (he was second to zip last night at 7PM and I've had 4 hatch since then) I have one that looks deformed and I have the one whose legs are stuck and can't get out of the bottom half of his shell. I do however have 3 nice chicks walking around and doing great.

Helping vs not-helping is a debate as old as hatching eggs themselves. If it were me, i would probably help the fella out. Now, that could have dire consequences as well. He could be attached by one or more vessels to the shell, etc. I would move him away from the fan and see if that helps, give him an hour, and recheck. If he wasn't out by then i would probably remove some of the upper shell so he can move more. So, are you saying that they are in cartons and hatching vertically from the egg? I don't know how others do it, I always remove mine from the turner and lay them on their side on the wire rack for lock down, therefore they hatch horizontally and aren't gravity challenged. Think of their orientation under a hen, they would be on their side.

The one that zipped 12-14 hours ago or so, I would check that one. I would ever so carefully pull the cap back and see if it is still alive. The one with the growth, is it up on the tail or vent area? Haven't seen that before, can you snap pic and maybe some other folks can help out.

I know, the stress is totally unbearable isn't it? From the sounds of it, you are having a successful hatch. Remember, some don't make it for reasons beyond our knowledge and it is not your fault. Hang in there mama.
