I woke up this morning to go doctor on Turd, my 6 mo old EE roo (he fought the turkey and the turkey won). As I was walking down the back steps I noticed 3 feathers that were particularly long. I picked them up and noticed a green sheen on them, unlike any of my other babies, I knew they belonged to a Turd tail.

I turn my head to the temp hospital I had Turd caged in, only to find it turned over, door open and cage empty. And if thats not bad enough, I had a silkie in a cage next to Turd. There were white silkie feathers everwhere and one bloody silkie roo. I took him inside and cleaned him up. I had to give him a hair cut to really asses the wound, but his throat has been slashed open down to the muscle.

At first my husband didnt that a possum could carry off a full grown rooster, but I found a trail of feathers leading into the woods.

Wonder what the best way to prepare a possum would be...

Are you sure it wasn't a raccoon? Sounds a bit more ambitious than a possum.

Nail him to a board, cut potatos and carrots, stuff them around him and inside to, Onions are optional, bake at 400 degress for 1 hour. When done remove possum from broard and toss in trash and eat the board:D

Ill keep yall posted. When my FIL got one 3 months ago it came round about 1030 pm. Im hoping I am so lucky.

So far my silkie is hanging in there. He is still eating and drinking.

I hope your silkie survives the injuries.

My feeling is, even if you kill whatever preditor that comes visiting tonight or the next won't prevent you from losing any more birds to preditors if you continue to house them in cages.

Your energy would be better spent providing preditor proof coops for all your birds so you don't continue to have them killed or injured.

Good luck.

Sorry about your Turd, hope the silkie rallies over the next few days. Good luck on the critter hunt....I would imagine you are about ready to go out.
