Hey all.
Noticed my drake sitting down last evening when usually everyone is looking for bugs - thought it was odd for him. As I was watching I noticed a definite limp.
This morning he was still limping and I could tell it was his right foot/leg. He will walk on it and at times doesn't seem to bad but he sticks his right leg out to the side a bit and tried not to put weight on it when he stand it seems. I noticed the when he bends down to forage he seems to struggle like he doesn't want to bend it? I'm not going to let him out to free range at all in hopes he just rests it. I could take him to the vet but he's really aggressive so he's be really hard to assess by anyone and there's no way they'd get an X-ray.
Any advice on helping my poor demon murder duck would be appreciated (I do have Meloxicam I could give if needed)

Have you checked the bottom of his foot to see if it's bumblefoot? Rule that out first, then if it's a strain, just keep him in a smaller area where he can easily access food and water for awhile, but keep your other ducks in site so he's not freaking out.

As far as he would allow me to look at his feet I did not see any signs of bumblefoot it was the first thing I did was to check. It was a fairly quick evaluation though because he is NOT about being picked up and especially not being flipped over haha!

We have kept him in the pen all day as well as keeping the younger ones separated so he's not running after or away from them. He doesn't seem any worse this afternoon and he was able to balance on his hurt leg and scratch his head so that seems like a slight improvement at least. I think I'll continue keep him from free ranging for a few days and hopefully it'll clear up... It would be miserable to have to move him to sick bay he's such an A-hole and I'm sure it would only fuel his burning hatred of me to do that 🤣.

yes to all that @CoriM said and also give him niacin in form of this 1 ml per day over some meal worms or other treat make sure he gets it all

my pekin was limping today Also ..so this morning I soaked her in Epson salt warm water bath, but didn’t let her drink any because it causes diarrhea. I think it really helped and now she’s resting in my ducky hospital room, but she’s not alone. There’s a friend duck in there with her.
