One of my girls managed to get herself out of the coop somehow (probably dug and wiggled under - it's a mobile coop and was a little crooked, has since been moved so there's no gaps) and this morning I found her nestled in the grass next to it. I picked her up and put her in the coop but she doesn't want to stand on her right leg for too long. She can put weight on it but lays down after a short time and is breathing heavily. I thoroughly checked her for injuries and nothing is readily apparent. Definitely no mites, no wounds, no runny eyes/nose etc. so I'm 99.99% sure it's not something contagious, her leg just needs to heal.
I am brooding three chicks right now in the house and I am wondering if it is reasonably safe to stick her in the brooder with them. I can move the heat lamp to one area of the brooder and she can have the other part and it would be cooler. It's colder out today and the other girls are picking on her as she is laying down so bringing her inside is my preference but I would have to set something else up for her to be safe from my cats.
I can partition the brooder and set up separate food and water. Thoughts? Obviously I know there's a risk of her having something and passing it on to the chicks BUT they are getting medicated food and supplements so I think exposure to her natural germs might be helpful (since they're going to be eventually when they go into the coop), just like if they were stuck in the brooder with an actual broody hen. Mostly my concern is if she would hurt the chicks.
