I have just picked up some hy-line brown baby chicks direct from hy-line headquarters. these girls produce brown eggs, more than 300 per year. they are the best brown egg layers available today. I'm asking $3 each, they are all female, I wont ship due to them already being older than 1 day. I live near Omaha, NE. the price may be flexible if you order more than a few.
As seen in mother earth news: these birds are very easy to handle and weather hardy. Great for any back yeard flock, I really don't want to sell them, I just have a few to many. ^_^

I can't see link but am guessing it shows the horrible procedure of de-becking. As bad as it seems it is necessary to prevent cannibalism in chickens raised in industrial barn type confinement. We all know how chickens will peck at a hen with a spot of blood and can kill her if she is not removed. Well it would happen very quickly in an industrial type environment. An ounce of prevention.
