Hydrometer calibration - help! Math idiot here

If it's supposed to be 75 but reads 58 then your readings are 17 too low so you need to add 17 to your reading to get the correct reading.

Sooooo for 40% your hygrometer will read 40-17 or 23%

my thermometer and hydrometer is off in both readings so I just put a sticker on it that reminds me how much to add/subtract for each.

I tried my first hatch ever in Feb and got 10 out of 40 eggs to hatch. Next hatch I watched every little reading, etc and only got 5 out of 36. Now I'm trying some shipped eggs from McMurray's and I've only got what looks like about 4 out of 20 developing.
