I’m Addicted to Chicken TV

Hello All!

I’m Susan. I’ve been thinking about and researching the art of raising chickens for a bit over a year. I finally got 9 chicks from TSC on April 2, 2020: 3 Golden Comets, 3 ISA Browns, and 3 Speckled Sussex. I had originally planned on ordering other breeds from a hatchery, but my local TSC ordered way too many chicks, so I figured I’d help them out. 😄 I couldn’t be happier.

The Golden Comets are a couple of weeks older than the others, but they all get along. I live on a 60 acre plot of land, with about an acre and a half fenced in. My fiancé and I built a large chicken tractor for the girls (and possibly one or two boys of the Speckled variety). We also have four dogs and two inside cats. Never a dull moment around here.

I currently work from home, and have been spending some time each day with the chicks. The older girls are just about fully feathered, with the other 6 not far behind. Chicken TV is one of my favorite and most relaxing things to watch. I’m pretty sure I’m addicted. I don’t usually interact in online forums, but I do enjoy reading and learning from the posts of others.
Happy chicken keeping!

Welcome to BackYardChickens! So glad to have you here in our wonderful community of friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people! Wow you sound JUST like us! We got 2 speckled sussex from our local hardware store, along with one buff orpington and two easter eggers. They were supposed to be Americaunas but they have green legs...so, yeah. Then we got two amberlinks because our neighbor told us hers laid all winter long. THEN I wanted the experience/challenge of incubating eggs and lusted after Swedish Flower Hens so I searched EBay and found some fertile eggs for sale. The lady shipped 8 and all 8 hatched! Now we have a "mixed flock" of five and a half week olds and three week olds. Watching them interact and feather out consumes way too much time as we sit, transfixed, in the run and watch them scurry about being chickens. I think more people should learn about chicken TV...it would keep them off the streets and down on the farm!
