So, my next door neighbor keeps 4 roosters in small runs built under the back deck. One hen escaped.
I did let my neighbor know, but they don’t seem interested in reclaiming her.
At first I thought she was a young he, but people I’ve asked on a neighborhood app tell me she is a gamefowl hen.
Unfortunately, they didn’t tell me in time, hence the name “Colonel Bertie ’Root’ Wooster the Not Rooster”.
My pit bull dog and my German Shepherd are both terrified of her.
Using a dog igloo and rice straw for a temporary coop, and feeding Purina chicken millet ? The Colonel is loose in my backyard which is fully fenced. She seems to prefer roosting in the trees and is fully capable of jump/flying to the top of the fence or the trees. As far as I can tell, she is fearless
we do have predators urban coyote and grey fox.
My questions are:
does she have to have a coop?
she doesn’t seem friendly, does she need another hen for companionship?
are there any routine vaccinations, dips, or other veterinarian needs?
Thank You
Sherry
