Hello my fellow peeps! I’m fairly new to chickens, I’ve always been the animal lover in the family. I grew up in Southern California and moved to Washington state when I was a teen. I’ve always been country at heart. I love horses, I grew up riding (lived and breathed horses) we have always had dogs and cats. Met my husband in high school and now we have 2 beautiful children. My daughter is 7 and has autism we also have a son who is 3. Currently we have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 6 alpacas, 1 Shetland pony, 12 chickens and 2 Narragansett turkeys. We also have 2 beehives. I work full time at a farm equipment dealership and my husband works from home and stays with the kiddos. We got chickens earlier this year and I didn’t know how much I would grow to love these creatures. Our first set of chickens were pullets ordered from mypetchicken, delivered at 1 day old. Out of 6 (sadly we lost 1 cream legbar chick at 4 days old) 5 grew up and are thriving at about 5 months old. I also acquired 6 black silkie chickens locally. A hen and roo and also 4 silkie chickies. Then I talked my husband into letting me get the Polish chicken someone was selling down the road. We also have 2 naragsett turkeys who my daughter absolutely loves (so much for thanksgiving dinner). Current farm project we are doing is converting a 14ft travel trailer into a coop (I’ll post progress pics at some point) my hope is to one day breed rare chickens, use my resources from all my animals and homestead to make money from home and be able to quit corporate life. For now I’ll be learning lots, making plans, talking chicken and making connections. Looking forward to it all!

Hello!! Welcome to BYC!! I hope you enjoy it here!:frow Cute polish chicken!!:love

Welcome to BYC, what a great introduction! What kind of horses do you like?
Thank you! I love all horse breeds and disciplines, my favorite breed I have owned was an appendix quarter horse, she was the best mix of both worlds. My dream breed I would have to say would be fresians 🤩 would love to own a few someday. I started out riding huntseat, my dream was to be in the Olympics for show jumping. I also dabbled in barrel racing and reining. By your username I suspect you are a horse person too!

I forgot to mention I’m getting some Brabanter eggs via mail. I will be incubating the eggs and hoping I’ll get a couple chicks from it. My first experience incubating anything were peafowl eggs and it was a bust. None developed at all I suspect they were not fertile as they did not develop at all. Leave it to me to try incubating some of the most difficult eggs to hatch for my first time. It was an expensive learning experience 🤦🏻‍♀️
