Hey there. I’m very new to this chicken raising business soooo please have patio with me. We just purchased 2 5 month old silkies. We only wanted hens. Now the “blue” one has beautiful blue ears developing. Someone just told me only males/roosters get that. Is that true? Do I have a HE and a she? How do I tell?

Not true. Hens get them too. Who told you this?
A pic will greatly help us tell the gender.

Welcome to BYC! I am terrible at telling gender, but I just wanted to add there's a forum for gender IDing: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/what-breed-or-gender-is-this.15/

At five months of age, there's a strong chance he should have crowed if he was indeed a he, as most of the time a cockerel is reaching sexual maturity at that age. It sounds probably like a pullet to me. Of course, "she" should be laying eggs soon!

And of course, pictures say a 1000 words. Just let us know if you need help uploading them.
