Howdee from another transplanted Yankee in NC. I moved south 35 years ago, love it here.No like… really bad though.
My boyfriend and I are starting our little homesteading journey here in NC. We both are from up north originally. Chicken math has already hit us hard. We have our mini rainbow flock of 6 outside. 2 EE, 2 “green queens” so assuming some sort of OE at this point, and 2 laced bluebells (one was called a zombie chicken because she’s white with black skin and some black spots forming) We also have a McMurray order of 9 coming next week (mostly Ameraucana and a couple Faverolles). And in July another 6 Faverolles.
We also have 20 silkie chicks in our spare bedroom that has now just been labeled the “Chicken Room”. This will eventually have a couple incubators in it as well as probably some spoiled house silkies XD
We just hand tilled a 6ft x 14ft veggie garden we should be planting in this weekend. (Shovels and hands, gotta love it)
We have a 9 year old kiddo that is helping us here and there with things. She’s still feeling out the process of everything.
Hopefully next month we will be slapping together 2-3 pallet coops for our 3 different flocks of babies. Lot of work but we are excited. All the chicken communities we have joined between here, Reddit, local FB groups, and in person meetups have been so extraordinarily helpful, and we are so thankful for it all.
