I am getting chicks today and I have a few questions about the heat lamp

Question one: Should I be worried about heat lamp fires?
Question two: how far away do I put the heat lamp for it to be 70-84 f

Many use heat lamps without issues. The distance is going to depend on wattage of the bulb and the type of brooder. Set it up now and start checking the temp. How old are the chicks? Day olds need 90 degrees. The temps you mention would be for two week old chicks. The temp you are looking for would be directly under the lamp. Away from the lamp needs to be cooler. The chicks need to be able to go back and forth between hot and cool.
