Hello everyone, I am looking forward to chatting with you and learning more about my "girls"

We are new to chickens, have had cats and dogs for years, and we are dog-less at the present time.
We started with 9 baby chicks on March 22, assuming that some would die, we have heard so many stories of chicks not making it, and since we have 2 curious cats, I am really surprised that we still have 9 chickens! I bought what are supposed to be pullets, but we can't tell for sure yet. We have 3 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Silver-Lace Wyandottes, 2 red-speckled Sussex and an Auracana. We wanted 2 Auracanas, but the girl at the feed store tried to tell the difference, so we have the 3 silver-laced and only 1 Auracana. They seem to get along quite well. They are fenced in on the lawn, (don't want poop on the deck), and my hubby built a great chicken coop with a large swing out door so it is really easy to clean.
I grew up in the city, and my hubby grew up on a diary farm. His mom always had chickens and I have wanted them for years. His mom is no longer with us, so I cannot get any info from her, so I am really looking forward to meeting you. I am so glad I found this website.
