I am new to this message thing but have been on BYC a few months to look at all the questions and answers and how to raise my chicken now.I have 34 chickens from 2 incubator hatchings they are road island reds and americanas.I have a question and really don't know where to post it as this is new to me.Some of my chickens are getting crooked toes meaning they are turning inward I guess is the best way to discribe it. Today I was told its because i am feeding them to much and am foundering them, then some one told me that i needed medication for them that it was a vitamin problem. They are eating a start-gro-lay product from the local farm supply store.Any help will be appreciated.

how old are your chickens?? are you feeding them a feed that is a combo of starter, grower, and layer?? Maybe if they aren't old enough for the layer feed, they are getting too much calcium from it..

I've heard about people taping toes from both sides to fix this before, like basically, use scotch tape... place on bottom of foot, and fold over to the topof the fot and stick them together....... theoretically, it may come from being on improper ground material..... (what I've read about so far...)

Try doing a search on the forum for "curled toes". Some of the more experienced backyard chickens folks have good advice on making a little band-aid bootie. I doubt that you are over feeding them... they should have starter feed available to them at all times. I'm sure they will be fine!
