I don't have all that many ducks honestly..about 10, but my husbands friends all come over and sit on the dock and watch the crazy antics. they know all the personalities and enjoy them. So i'm cleaning last weekend and here comes a knock on my door. I open it and it's 2 guys my husband works with over at Universal..they have a box of mallard ducklings that appear to be about a day old..barely dry. Apparently momma duck hatched them in the ride track at one of the water rides over at the park and if they didn't move them they'd be killed, so he wanted to know if i could just be so kind as to ..well, you know..feed them, take care of them and love them till they were big enough to go out free on the lake. Sigh..and of course my answer was yes. I know it's probably against the rules since fish and game just thinks "nature should run it's course" but i'm a big old sap, so i'm not the proud momma of 7 mallards, 3 cuyogas, and a buff all not big enough to go on the lake with my 4 ancona, 2 buff and 3 pekins (not to mention the various mallards that have adopted me because i feed them..so they just stay in my yard and run to me when i'm out there..lol

goodness...i don't think the neighbors are actually calling me that..i think it's just my kids and family...so far..lol I hope i don't get ducks delivered from various sources too often..sheesh.

Oh I had almost the same thing happen to me the other day. I have 10 ducks too and a friend of mine works at the Humane Society here in my town and texts me wanting to know if I could take in 10 baby mallards because the mom had abandoned them when they fell in a storm drain :( Luckily she found a wildlife rehaber to take them, that actually had a wild mallard momma with a couple babys that he was helping recover from a leg injury, so hopefully they will still stay wild!
