I have found what I believe may be a way for me to continue being a housewife but still add to our family's income and help animal lovers at the same time!!!

As many know, I am getting a Great Dane puppy on July 4th. I decided I wanted him to have tattoo identification. I have done lots of research and decided it is safer and far more reliable than a microchip. So I start looking and there is NO ONE in my area who does it. So, I got a number online and called......I can get the gun kit, support, "training" (which pretty much consists of detailed instructions, as needed/wanted phone consults, etc), all the materials needed to start, referrals from the company AND liability insurance so if someone claims their pet was harmed by the tattoo the company pays for the vet bills for only $300. The company has been in business for 35 years and they are a national registry for the identification numbers. So anyway, this pretty much means I can start a home business for $300. I think it is something I would love doing and also think it is a much needed service. I am pretty excited about it. What do you guys think?

I think you ought to let purebred goat breeders know you have a service to offer. Tattoos are mandatory for registered dairy goats and it is really hard to get a good legible tattoo on LaManchas.

Hey Thats pretty cool, and if no one else in your area is doing it, as long as your advertising is good you have a wide client base with no competition!

I had thought of the fact that it might be a needed service for some type of farm animals too. I honestly don't know much of anything about any livestock type animals except chickens, though so I wasn't sure.

I thought that part was pretty cool.

However, I will be moving to San Antonio in about a year and I am sure there are lots doing it there. But, even so, I am very people oriented and can probably still find enough to add a little income.

Where would the tattoo be sited and how big would it be .... only asking as there is a possibility that a lot of short hairded dog owners might not want it visable and I am really curious as I have not heard of it in the UK, where we generally go for microchipping.
Also would it similar to human tattooing in so much that is scabs etc etc, risk of infection?

Tattooing would also be a great thing for horses. I would definately consider that for our horse.

My potbellied pig has a tattoo on her belly up near her front legs... You don't notice it, even when she flops over for belly rubs

Great idea for you! I would love to find something to do from my home to bring in some grocery money... Good Luck with if you decide to go ahead with it!
