Well my little broody EE has been sitting for about 5-6 days now and I was just gonna check up on her after the storm at 7:30 something....WELL I picked up the plywood on her cage and then opened the cage door and gave her a pat... THEN I noticed ants.... EVERYWHERE!!!
I freaked out. bigtime. I got her out gently and put her on one of the roosts no one was using, then got the box out, and cleaned it out.( poured a gallon of water in it) I got new shavings, and put them in it. I moved the cage off the ground putting a milk crate and a bucket under it for support. gently moved Connie back in her nest..... and what does she do???? Jump out and start acting like shes done brooding....
I was going to get eggs tommarow... and now... No more broody hen. I am soooo mad, someone really does NOT want me to have baby chicks here.
All this happening tonight has made me want to remodel the pen, which I'll do tommarow. Im also getting 9 new EE pullets tommarow and getting rid of the old girls....
