I am soooo confused about the roosting poles!!!

I honesty have no idea. How high? How thick? How much room for the birds?

A gently rounded 2x4, flat side up, works great. 10" per bird for heavyweight breeds, 8" for lightweight breeds. 18" from the wall and 12" from each other, if you have more than one roost. People with smaller coops sometimes go a little closer to the wall. Make sure the roost is higher than the nest boxes, to keep them from sleeping in the nest boxes. Don't place it where there's a draft, especially in the winter. A little breeze when the coop is opened up in the middle of summer is okay.
