I was at a long anticipated grazing seminar today that I was really looking forward to. My DH called me at lunch and told me that a man had stopped by to ask if we knew that there was an accident on Tueday eve and a car had gone thru our pasture fence. He knew we have livestock in that pasture. He said the Sheriffs Dept was at the accident scene and the car was towed out. The Sheriffs Deputy didn't even come to the house to let us know we had property damage from this accident and we were home. SO I have to leave the conference, come home and make sure the cows and horses were put in the upper pastures (DH had accomplished this by the time I got home) and then I called the Sheriffs office and asked them about it. They sent a Deputy over with the accident report. He told me that it is their duty to report it to the property owner and didn't know why that wasn''t done. Thank God, the animals didn't go out on the road (2 days) of open pasture! If one or more had gotten out and a car hit them I would be responsible for all the damages. I can't believe that the Deputy didn't tell us knowing it was livestock fence.
Just had to rant! It ruined my day and the conference.
